Tiffany Masterson

Before I developed Drunk Elephant, I had all sorts of skin issues: combo, oily in the T-zone, "sensitive" (or so I thought), occasionally breakout prone, out of balance, mild rosacea, visible pores, you name it. It was a lot.

I was a frustrated, confused brand-hopper searching for anything that would help. Nothing really worked, and if it did, it didn’t work for long. I started selling a bar cleanser on the side while educating myself about ingredients, how skin reacts to them, and what roles they play in a formulation. I identified six ingredients that I believed were at the root of my issues—today I call them the Suspicious 6™. Once I eliminated all of them from my routine, it was amazing: My skin returned to a clear, healthy, balanced state. But I couldn't find products without at least one of the Suspicious 6™ in them—so I decided to make them myself.

When skin is exposed to irritants and sensitizers, damage can be imperceptible and cumulative, leaving it in a reactive mode. We believe we have "sensitive" skin, but it's often really just skin that has become sensitized over time, which is a problem that can be easily addressed.

When I created Drunk Elephant, I isolated the most effective ingredients—both synthetic and natural—that directly benefit the health of the skin. I formulated the products using a high percentage of active ingredients at skin-friendly pH levels, and I made sure that all of the ingredients were recognized by the skin and easily absorbed. A routine is only as good as its worst product, and a product only as good as its worst ingredient. In other words, it takes just one bad guy to ruin the party.

We think of Drunk Elephant as an ingredient-elimination philosophy for a total skin reset. Using these products exclusively is the best way to get maximum results. So I invite you to take a #drunkbreak🐘. See what happens when your skin returns to its healthiest, most balanced state. You may find that your skin is so smooth and even and glowing that you can go without makeup.

Good luck! And thanks for being part of the Drunk Elephant community.

Marula Tree

The name Drunk Elephant is rooted in a myth that says the elephants love to eat the fruit that has fallen from Marula trees. Once eaten, fermentation occurs inside their very large tummies and the elephants become drunk!

Marula Fruit

Virgin Marula oil, straight from the "pip", can be found throughout the Drunk Elephant line. It is an oil that Masterson believes is superior to ANY she's tried due to the high content of fatty acids and antioxidants.
